ESPN halved the time they planned to spend on day 1 of the Main Event, from four weeks to two. This post has been updated with the new schedule, as far as is known so far. Their previous plans are below.

August 18, 8 and 9 PM: Main Event day 1A

September 1, 8 and 9 PM: Main Event day 1C

No kidding. One regular event, a charitable tournament (one of the worst poker broadcasts I've ever seen), and two made-for TV events (40K and Champions Invitational), only one of which even awards a bracelet. It's barely a championship any more: more of a TV show.

I made a couple of minor updates to the schedule recently. On September 29 and October 6 they're running three and one shows respectively. They're also showing the final table as running 2 1/2 hours now (see Variable-Length Broadcast for Main Event Final Table Being Considered).

Ivey, Esfandiari, and Shulman are still in it as I write this. That makes it a more interesting final 27 than usual. Since when do famous poker players make it to the end of the WSOP Main Event? They rarely do.

Who could want to see more hours of the meangingless bullshit in the main event? Those early eps are a PAIN to get through. One ep. per each day one in fine, but now TWO? What they should be doing it adding more episodes for the later stages, such as the final table and heads up play. FFS.

That schedule sucks... what about all the other events. I'll guess they'll just show the final hand of important events. What would happen if they get a final table in an event they aren't covering and the line-up was Dwan, Brunson, Hansen, Hellmuth, Negreanu, Ivey, Matusow and the like. They would look like idiots. Surely they would have to cover a game like this.

It was two hours each for six events last year.

I like seeing more episodes on the main event rather than just an hour from 15 other events. It'll suck if something major happens in the other bracelet events that we really want to see though.
