High Stakes Poker Season 5 Taping Updates

High Stakes Poker season 5 is taping now at the Golden Nugget. Following are the lineups (sources: CardPlayer, Pokerati):

Friday: Doyle Brunson, Dario Minieri, Phil Laak, Tom "durrrr" Dwan, Eli Elezra, Mike Baxter, Alan Meltzer, and David Peat.

Saturday: Daniel Negreanu, Joe Hachem, Howard Lederer, Patrik Antonius, Phil Laak, Antonio Esfandiari, Sam Simon, and Nick Cassavetes. Tom Dwan later replaced Sam Simon.

Sunday: Tom Dwan, Doyle Brunson, Eli Elezra, Peter Eastgate, David Benyamine, Barry Greenstein, Ilari "Ziigmund" Sahamies, and Daniel Negreanu.

  1. When asked on FTP chat whether he was playing High Stakes Poker, Phil Ivey reportedly said "not sure yet... don't think i feel like flyn back for it. too lazy."

  3. Doyle won again. He's won every time he's played HSP. He plays two sessions this season, so he'll be going for his 14th-straight winning session today.

  4. Actually, Doyle hasn't won every session. In season one, last session (I think) he lost his entyre buy-in to Daniel Negreanu, who sucked out (if I remember correctly). Doyle had aces. He also made a funny comment to Todd: "I lost all your heritage money" or smth.

  5. Phil Laak also played Saturday. So he's playing with his girlfriend's (Jen Tilly) ex-husband, Sam Simon, and friend Antonio Esfandiari. I wonder if Tilly is sweating the game?

  6. According to Pokerati: Tom Dwan stepped in Saturday when Sam Simon left the game. Ivey won't be showing up for Sunday's game.

  7. Sunday's lineup, according to Pokerati: Tom Dwan, Doyle Brunson, Eli Elezra, Peter Eastgate, David Benyamine, Barry Greenstein, Ilari Sahamies, and Daniel Negreanu. So Demidov and Ivey didn't show. Dwan and Elezra replaced them.

    We had another cash game on High Stakes Poker. Again, I can’t talk about it but I will say I’ll be going for my 15th straight win on the TV cash games next time I play. I read somewhere that I play too tight in the games. Hello! I thought the object was to win the money, not put on a show to please the viewers.

    2008 was a busy and stressful year for me, and all of the travel and stress had really worn me down. I was tired enough that I passed on playing in a episode of "High Stakes Poker" with two "Billionaires" on December 20th, despite the fact that I won over $250k last time I played in a similar one a month or two earlier.

  16. Rob Huxley writes about the biggest hand in TV poker history:

    the biggest pot played on television? This title currently sits with two players on the upcoming season of High Stakes Poker that will air in the USA on April 5th. The pot size was $919,600, and while there have been pots with more money in them, this one has the current record as this particular hand was not ran twice and there were no saves for this particular hand. The names of these players is a closely guarded secret, so you will just have to wait until the next season airs to find out who they were.

  17. Benyamine won a pot in season 4 of $850,000 that was won outright. Even crazier, there wasn't even a showdown!

  18. According to my records, the pot Mr. Huxley is talking about was "only" $878,800.
