High Stakes Poker Season Five Plans Announced

GSN Vice President Kevin Belinkoff and Poker PROductions President Mori Eskandani discussed plans for season five of High Stakes Poker with CardPlayer. Changes for the new season include:
  • They will show all the hole cards.
  • Mori Eskandani says "There's a good chance it'll be a much bigger buyin" and CardPlayer reports "Eskandani hopes to see the minimum buy-in increase to $250,000, allowing the blinds to increase to $400-$800."
  • They intend to announce a new venue soon.
Previous rumors had them taping in November and moving to the Golden Nugget. See the CardPlayer video and article.

  1. From our article about the latest PocketFives.com podcast: Kevin Belinkoff is Vice President of Programming at GSN, and he discussed season five of High Stakes Poker. He said they don't have a shooting schedule or host yet, but they're talking to a number of potential venues and hope to be shooting pretty soon. They've moved poker programming to Sunday nights.

    barryg1: just got off the phone with Mori, the producer of high stakes poker
    barryg1: he said they are hoping to air the first episode of season 5 on Jan 15, 2009, but there are some negotiations going on that could delay it
    barryg1: the negotiations are with the venue where it will be played and some salary negotiations

  4. Poker News Daily had an interview with a GSN executive. There's not much information there, but she said about High Stakes Poker "We’re picking up another season and are in the midst of making all of those plans." She also said Sunday night (as opposed to poker) ratings are up. They moved poker to Sundays a while back.

  6. Ziigmund (Ilari Sahamies) reportedly blogged that he'll be playing HSP in late December. He's one of the players people have most wanted to see on HSP.

    It will be filmed before Christmas and cut up into shows that will start airing in the early spring. Invitations haven't been sent out yet.
