Excerpts from Serious Sports News Network:
World Poker Tour Enterprises... has announced a new series of events designed to revive the sagging ratings for poker shows.
WPT President Steve Lipscomb made the announcement today.... "we’ve now created a new wrinkle to the classic American card game. We call it the All-In Poker Tour."
"With our new All-In Tour, it’s ‘all-in, all the time.’"
"I understand why some players would be upset at the changes.... What they fail to understand is that TV poker is now less about poker and more about TV," Lipscomb said, responding to the players’ concerns.
"Nobody wants to hear about strategy and pot-odds and hand analysis. If TV viewers wanted to think, they’d watch ‘Jeopardy’. What we want is the ‘Deal or No Deal’ audience. More cards, more luck and more action, less of that strategerization and thinky-type stuff."

Tell me this is a joke...it's a joke, right? Right guys?..Guys?

I think I just embarrassed myself...

WPT is just emulating the leader in the televised poker field, ESPN. ;-)
ReplyDeleteDumbest concept for show ever!!!! No poker player will watch... No poker player will play this. Has to be a joke. Has to be.
ReplyDeleteI don't mind ESPN's WSOP coverage, but this 'all-in all the time" format by the WPT sounds really dumb. However, I doubt no tv poker show can be as bad as "The River" which I watched for the first time this past weekend.
ReplyDeleteSome people actually seem to believe the article is serious. It was a parody.
ReplyDeleteoooohh! You had me going there.....I took it as serious, got me hook, line, and sinker.
ReplyDeleteThe fact that so many people fell for this proves that it's thought to be possible. And that's sad in itself.
ReplyDeleteGood point EmmJay. WPT does use smoke machines and an applause track. High Stakes Poker had some scripted elements. ESPN mostly only shows all-ins. Best Damn Poker Show was a reality show. Poker broadcasts are treated a lot different from other competitions, e.g. football.
