World Poker Tour Entertainment CEO Steve Lipscomb posted an
open letter seeking feedback on the WPT's TV-table structure. The structure is often criticized for being too steep, making the TV table an all-in fest. You can respond at the World Poker Tour
forum. There's also a discussion at
2+2, and
Andy Bloch and
Matt Matros (see the May 18th entry) have posted replies on their sites. I think Matt Matros provided the best reply so far, but I recommend that you read them all if you're interested in the subject.
Some interesting points from Lipscomb's letter:
- When they reach the TV table, the blinds are reset to make the average stack about 40 big blinds. This usually means they're rolling back the blinds.
- They air 1/8 to 1/5 of the hands played at the TV table.
- About 20 of the 88 minutes of each episode are non-poker content.
- It costs the WPT about $300,000 to film each episode.
Matros points out that the average TV table lasts 5 hours and 21 minutes.
